Biography

​

 

Ryan C. Tittle is a writer from Walker County, Alabama. He is the author of over fifty scripts for the stage in addition to poems, essays, humor, and criticism. Under the pseudonym Robert Cole, his plays have been published by Eldridge Plays & Musicals and Holly Grove Press. In addition, he serves on the Editorial Board for The John Whitmer Historical Association Journal, having previously been Copy Editor for that journal and Restoration Studies. His other work includes film/tv criticism for the website Moon Beach Island, and humor for the website The Studio Exec.

He studied playwriting with David Henry Hwang (Tony Award-winning author of M. Butterfly and Obie-Award-winner of FOBGolden Child, & Yellow Face), Gladden Schrock (Pulitzer Prize-nominated novelist of Letters from Alf), and Lee Eric Shackleford (Playwright-in-Residence for Theatre UAB, Ruby Lloyd Apsey Award-winner for Holmes & Watson). In addition, he studied prose with Mark Jude Poirier (screenwriter of Hateship, LoveshipGoats, and Smart People).

He is the winner of the 2nd Prize in Blue Institute's 5th annual Words on Water Writing Contest (Adult Poetry Category), two John Whitmer Historical Association Scholarship Awards (2018/2017), and the 1999 Ruby Lloyd Apsey Award in Playwriting and was a finalist for the George R. Kernodle Award (University of Arkansas) & the Young Playwrights Festival (Horizon Theatre), semi-finalist for the Mildred and Albert Panowski Award (Northern Michigan University), the recipient of an honorable mention from the Southern Writers’ Project (Alabama Shakespeare Festival), and a Judges’ Special Recognition from the Literary Arts Awards (Alabama Writers’ Forum).

He is a graduate of Graceland University (MA Religion, Community of Christ Seminary), Athens State University (BA English, Kappa Delta Pi and cum laude honors), Bennington College (BA Drama/Theatre), and the Alabama School of Fine Arts.

He lives in Sumiton, Alabama.
